What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, commonly called an eye-lift, removes excess eyelid skin while addressing fat pad excess. Consideration of the contribution of the eyebrow position to this condition is part of the initial assessment, and may require attention. This procedure may create a more open appearance of the eyelids. Dr Marc Seifman's technique ensures natural-looking results with well-concealed scarring.

What is the process?

Start with a GP referral and book consultation with Dr Seifman. A minimum of two comprehensive consultations will assess your needs and plan the appropriate technique. Follow-up appointments at 1 week, 2 weeks and 6 weeks ensure proper healing with continuous support available.

What does the procedure
journey look like?

To begin your journey at Tailored Plastic Surgery, you will typically have an initial consultation to discuss your goals and see how we can help you. After a second consultation and a cooling-off period of one week, if you wish to proceed, we will schedule the surgery on a date that suits you. We will discuss the steps you need to take in the lead-up to your surgery, and also on the day of your procedure.

Most people feel the difference in their eyes immediately after their operation, and have little pain. The night after your procedure and the day after you may experience some discomfort in the eyelids. You should be able to go home the next day. You should be able to return to work within two weeks depending on what your regular occupation is. We advise against strenuous physical activity and exercise within the first six weeks.

It is important to remember that with all surgical procedures, there will be swelling immediately after the operation, and it will only be with a little time, that the final results become apparent.

Four phases of plastic surgery journey. Phase 1: 1 hour consultation to discuss goals. Phase 2: Book and prepare for your surgery. Phase 3: 1 day, the procedure. Phase 4: 6-8 weeks post surgery, the recovery.

Procedure Risks

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) aims to improve the contour of your eyes. In addition to general surgery risks, potential risks associated with this procedure may include:

Numbness or Sensation Changes:

Nerve injury during surgery can result in temporary or permanent loss of sensation in the eyelid skin

Wound Healing Issues:

Blepharoplasty involves incisions, and there is a risk of delayed wound healing, wound separation, or infection. Proper wound care and follow-up visits are necessary for optimal healing.

Scarring:

Blepharoplasty incisions result in scars, typically located along the upper eyelid crease or just under the eyelashes of the lower eyelid. The appearance of scars can vary depending on individual healing processes and proper scar management techniques.

Dry eye/watery eye:

Changes in the anatomy of the eyelids can alter the function of the eyelid in protecting the eye. Patients may experience dry or watery eye.

Lagophthalmos/ectropion:

Blepharoplasty involves removing skin from the eyelids, and there is a risk of too much skin being removed, resulting in an inability to cover the eye with the eyelids. Whilst we monitor for this outcome, if this does occur, Dr Seifman will guide you through the management of this condition.
