Botulinum toxin
Botulinum neurotoxin, one form of which is known as Botox, is a medication that prevents muscles from moving. This is often used cosmetically to reduce skin wrinkles depending on which muscles are targeted with this therapy.

What is Botulinum toxin?
The muscles of the face are closely related to the skin. Excessive or continued activity can result in rhytids (wrinkles). Injection of neurotoxin, such as botulinum toxin, can target these muscles to weaken their activity and decrease the number and severity of your facial rhytids.

What does the procedure
journey look like?
To begin your treatment at Tailored Plastic Surgery, you will typically have an initial consultation to discuss your goals and see how we can help you. After considering your particular circumstances, including any underlying conditions which may be a contraindication to botulinum toxin treatment, we will proceed with the treatment.
There may be some discomfort immediately following the procedure, and some do experience feelings of tension in the treated areas. We advise against strenuous physical activity and exercise within the first 24 hours.
The effects of the treatment do take up to 14 days following the treatment to have their full effect. Following that, the effects last for up to four months.
Procedure Risks
Asymmetry:
No person is perfectly symmetrical, yet at Tailored Plastic Surgery, we aim to achieve symmetry in our treatments. There is a risk that the result may not be perfectly symmetrical, in which case you may require an additional treatment to achieve this effect.
Ptosis:
People respond differently to the effects of botulinum toxin, and for some people, there may be too much of an effect, resulting in ptosis or descent, of particular structures. You may require an additional treatment to achieve balance or wait for the effects of the treatment to subside.
Still unsure? Here are some FAQs…
Will it hurt? Can I take anything to decrease the pain?
Most people tolerate the injections well, without requiring pain relief. However, if you feel that you would like to take pain relief prior to your procedure, we are happy for you to do so. It is important to ensure that whatever pain relief you take does not impair your ability to drive or make important decisions.
Do I need to fast or have someone bring me for my treatment?
You do not need to fast for your treatment or have someone bring you. If you would like a support person to come to your appointment, we encourage you to arrange this.
